When Should You Replace Your Laptop?
Repair is usually the more economical choice — but not always. Here's how to think through the decision.
Compare the repair cost to the laptop's value
If a repair costs a small fraction of what a comparable replacement would cost, repair is almost always the better choice.
Check if it's a one-off fault or a pattern
A single fault (screen, battery, keyboard) on an otherwise healthy laptop is usually worth fixing. Repeated, unrelated failures across a short period can be a sign the laptop is reaching the end of its useful life.
Consider whether an upgrade would solve the real problem
If the complaint is "it feels slow," an SSD upgrade or RAM upgrade often resolves this far more cheaply than buying new — many customers are surprised how much life this adds back.
Factor in your actual needs
If your laptop still comfortably handles what you use it for day to day, age alone isn't a strong reason to replace it.
